PRESS RELEASE
“AMERICA AND ALL THAT JAZZ”, is this year’s theme for the 11th Annual Town of Barnstable 4th of July Parade. It will take place on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at 4 PM on Main Street, Hyannis. Lou Colombo will be the Grand Marshall.
The parade committee has been busy sending out donation requests to defray the cost of the bands and securing flatbeds for floats. Over fifty floats are expected. Plans are underway to make this a spectacular event.
The parade route will start at the intersection of Ocean Street and Main Street and continue down to Sea Street and then cross over to South Street.
Some of the confirmed bands for this year’s parade are the Crimson Brigade Marching Band, Erics’ Steel Drum Band, Bart Wiseman and his Jazz Combo, Colum Cille Pipes and Drums, Lou Pells and his Oom - Pah Band, FYI Band, Barnstable High School Marching Band, with a special visit from a ten foot Uncle Sam. The Hyannis Civic Association will again be sponsoring a special children’s bike decorating contest that will be held prior to the parade on the Village Green and will be part of the parade from that point of Main Street to South Street. Awards will be given to all the children.
Parade float entrants will be judged and the winners will be awarded ribbons after the parade on the Village Green. Categories for the competition will be in keeping with the theme: “America and All that JAZZ” : Most Patriotic, Most Historical, Most Nautical, Most Humorous, Best Theme, Best Cultural float, and Grand Marshall Award.
