Full Release:
It’s not the weather but the economic climate that is canceling parades and festivals all over the nation this year. But in Hyannis, Cape Cod we know there is still plenty to celebrate.

We begin with the 1st annual VIP Pirates Ball to be held Friday June 12th, behind the Cape Cod Maritime Museum. 7pm to 11pm. The “Fun – raiser” will be a costume (optional) party, hors d’oeuvres and cash bar, with auctions and raffles to benefit the Museum and kick off the Maritime Festival.

The Cape Cod Maritime Museum and its Festival Sponsors present the 8th Annual Cape Cod Maritime Festival. The Festival will be held on the Hyannis waterfront, at the museum, adjoining Aselton Park and Hyannis Marina on Saturday June 13, 2009 and Sunday June 14, 2009. Celebrate our rich nautical history, and life on and near the sea. Explore the 150’ Barquentine, Peacemaker, The Black Dog Tall Ship Alabama and the Gannon and Benjamin schooner Charlotte, as well as other surprise vessels destined to join in the excitement. Go back in time and book a sail on the 1886 Crosby catboat replica Sarah during the day, and take a sunset cruise on the 90 ft fore and aft rigged schooner Alabama on Saturday night. Live entertainment Saturday includes The Elbows for children in the morning and continues with Gaelic singers Kyte Mackillop and Jen Schoonover, Pirate Minstrels Morgan Rattler and Irish traditional band Cape Traditions. On Sunday The New Bedford Sea Chantey Chorus starts our day and the Pirate Minstrels Morgan Rattler return to entertain us throughout the day, while Clan–Na- Mara Pipes and Drum round out our afternoon. Enjoy colorful and exciting exhibits: boat builders, nautical craft demonstrations, artists, environmental and educational activities, historical exhibits, children’s entertainment, and - of course - seafood.

The Festival hours are 10:00am to 4:00pm. There is no festival admission fee, but donations, gratefully accepted, directly benefit the Cape Cod Maritime Museum, its exhibits and programs. The Museum is located at 135 South St, Hyannis, MA 02601. Contact us by calling 508-775-1723 email info@capecodmaritimemuseum.org or visit our website www.capecodmaritimemuseum.org
